CYDC Activities

CURRENT CYDC OPERATIONS


 

Football

There are 8 teams playing in the Garforth Junior League and the Leeds and District Junior League. Another 3 teams play friendly matches with the view to play official matches in season 2010/11. Development Squad, U10, U11, U12a, U12b, U13, U15, U16, U17, U18,Trials Training Squad. Football practice sessions take place throughout the week

Other footballing activities are as follows:

Trial Squad

This group train twice weekly in preparation for trial or friendly matches against teams representing professional clubs.. This provision is for the more gifted and committed football players that have a desire to advance to higher levels.

Development Squad Training

This aimed for children aged 4 to 9 and take place at the Mandela Centre. It encourages children to get into the habit of regular healthy exercise and to participate in organised sports activity from an early age. 

The On Target Estate Project.

This is football training for young people every Friday and Saturday evenings to counter anti-social behaviour. This is organised in partnership with Leeds United In the Community. Funded by the Football League.

Mandela Centre 5-a-side

Indoor 5-a-side football during the day twice weekly at the Mandela Centre for young people aged 16 to 19 who not in work, education, employment or training (NEET). These sessions attract many young people who are looking for some type of positive activity and guidance.


Other CYDC Activities:
 

Weight Training (So-Solid Athletic)

This is a free facility accessible to all young people in the Chapel Allerton Ward. This activity takes place in the confines of the Changing Room area of the centre. It was initially started with donated equipment from various individuals associated with CYDC. It currently has over 140 members with an average of 80 users per week. 


 
Keep Fit/Circuit Training

This activity takes place 2 weekly daytime and 1 evening per week. This activity is available to CYDC members and also open to people in the local community.  

Drugs and Weapons Awareness Workshops

These take place on a twice monthly basis and is funded and delivered by the local NPT (Neighbourhood Police Team).


Healthy Cooking and Eating Sessions

This activity was funded by Leeds NHS Trust and delivered by The Feel Good Factor before the funding ran out.


 
Hypnotic Dance Sessions

This for young people who are keen to participate in dance or utilise it to keep fit.. This activity takes place 3 time weekly.
 

The Goal Project

Providing access to year 10 school pupils from South Leeds Academy to Alternative Curriculum based around sports activities.


 
Prove It Project

This project aim is to deliver additional support to young people excluded from school using the development of emotional literacy and sports as a catalyst to improve their school attendance and provide better chances in life.


 
The Engagement Project

The main objectives is to provide better prospects in life for the young people who are in danger of entering the criminal justice system or those who have been in prisons or detention centres. By encouraging participants to understand the importance of self awareness and positive thinking they will become inspired and motivated to improve their values, behaviour, goals and inspirations. In turn these will promote lifelong changes in attitude and enthusiasm and consequently improve their own lives and those of the communities in which they will return to live.


 
Bumpy Bike Project

The project is based at the Prince Philip Centre and is provided by Leeds Youth Service in partnership with CYDC .This is the ideal opportunity for young people aged 12 to 16 to learn to ride a bike correctly in controlled conditions and in an enclosed area. Instruction is from a qualified Bumpy Instructor who is also a qualified youth worker. Participants will be able to learn bike maintainance and gain OCN qualification.


 
Conflict Resolution Workshops

The aim of these sessions is to resolve conflicts between gangs and young people. Through a range of group exercise and individuals expressing themselves and discussing various issues, It provides the opportunity for young people to equip themselves with knowledge and information on how they can deal with particular scenarios to avert violent conflict. The workshops also emphasise exercises that explore the individual relationships. 

Rugby League

After hosting a very successful Rugby Fun Day, CYDC is now in a position a excellent position to introduce junior rugby. With the support of Leds Rhinos, UnionLearn, the RFL and the Jamaican National Rugby Leage Team Coordinator regular training will start shortly so that Chapeltown Cougers Under 7's team can start next season Various fun versions of the game will be utilised to encourage participation from young people. Sessions will take place every Saturday for 8 weeks with existing and ex-professional players getting involved to attract as many young people as possible from Chapeltown and the surrounding areas.


 
Virgin Media Pioneer

In conjunction with Enterprise UK, CYDC has brought forward young people with plans or ideas to set up new businesses . Once registered onto the programme they receive support and advice from a network of experts.


Leeds Somali Community

CYDC has links and partnerships with many organisations. A more recent development is its growing relationship with Leeds Somali community.
